ADHD Adult Referrals

ADULT ADHD REFERRAL PROCESS

Thank you for your interest in a referral for an adult ADHD assessment. Please read the following three step process carefully.

Right to Choose pathway

Due to huge demand, the NHS pathway for Adult ADHD in North East London is currently closed. You therefore have the option of going through the Right to Choose pathway which means you can choose to be referred to a private provider and this will be funded by the NHS.

All Right to Choose providers are classed as private providers.

You will need to choose one of these private Right to Choose providers and details can be found here:

ADHD UK: Right to Choose

We cannot choose a private provider for you - you must do this yourself.

 PRIVATE PROVIDERS

Please also read essential information regarding private providers, including information on referral, what to expect, and prescribing.

Please note that NHS GPs have no obligation to perform any investigations or prescribe any medications following attendance at a private provider.

It is vital that, when selecting a Right to Choose provider, you ensure that:

  • 1. You meet their referral criteria
  • 2. They can prescribe medication for you (if this is something you would wish to pursue)
  • 3. You are aware of their waiting times

We appreciate that you will be keen to be assessed as soon as possible, however, please do not choose a provider simply because it has the shortest waiting time. Do check that it is the right service for you.

 To proceed with a referral

To proceed with your ADHD referral, please complete the following documentation and return all of these to us:

  • 1. A completed Adult ADHD Self Screening Tool - ADHD UK
  • 2. A handwritten or typed statement with your symptoms, concerns and impact upon daily living including home, work and relationships; also include what you have tried to do to help with these symptoms and what you expect from diagnosis; please make this as detailed as possible as it will aid in your referral;  inadequate information may result in your referral being rejected
  • 3. Details of your selected Right to Choose provider
  • 4. A completed referral proforma, downloaded from your chosen provider's website; please note that your GP will not be able to fill this out for you

We can only accept your request for a referral for assessment once all of the above pieces of documentation have been received.  You can either email this into nelondonicb.contacthaiderian@nhs.net or give the paper copy into reception.

Please note that if we need to send you reminders for any outstanding information or documents, we will hold your referral for you for a period of 21 days, to allow you time to provide the required information. If you still do not respond to our reminders, we will assume you do not wish to be referred, and we will close your request. Doing this allows our admin staff the time to help other patients.

There is no requirement to discuss your ADHD concerns with a doctor beforehand as we will review your submission.

 Making a referral

Once we have received all pieces of information, if you meet the criteria, the admin team will make the referral to your chosen provider, sending off all the required documents. After this, your chosen provider will be in touch. If you don't meet the criteria for referral, you will be informed and signposted to general support.

This referral will go straight to the provider. If you also need support with this from the GP pls book an additional appointment.

Once your referral has been sent to your provider, the surgery will no longer be involved in the process and all queries will need to be directed to your provider.

Many thanks

Yours sincerely
